In at the Deep End
Alcatraz, a member of the US marines, is onboard a submarine in the Hudson River. The marines start talking about their version of what exactly is happening on the ground, when the sub is suddenly attacked by an unknown disturbance, and the marines escape in the chaos. Outside, they find New York City being destroyed by mysterious aliens, which begin killing the marines. Suddenly a Ceph Gunship emerges out of the water and kills all marines but before the Ceph Gunship can kill Alcatraz, , a man in a nanosuit appears and destroys it. Alcatraz then loses consciousness while the man tells him :"destiny is a bitch" and "it'll be on you now."
Alcatraz wakes up in a dockhouse, wearing the Nanosuit 2, and finds the man who saved him earlier is now dead. He then proceeds to take the man's Pistol but suddenly has a flashback in which he sees the man, Prophet, who tells him that he is contaminated with the aliens virus. He then tells Alcatraz that he must break the symbiosis with the suit in order to give Alcatraz control over it, and proceeds to shoot himself in the head. Alcatraz then goes to the exit where he learns about some of the capabilities of the Nanosuit, like power jumping and fast sprinting. When he exits the dockhouse the Nanosuit activates a new mode - The Tactical Visor. He gains some ammo for the Pistol and moments later his "first" Assault Rifle - The SCARAB. Fighting his way outside he receives messages from a scientist named Nathan Gould, who is mistaking Alcatraz for the man who was previously using the suit, Prophet. Gould instructs Alcatraz on where to find him, but the latter is repeatedly attacked by armed members of a group called CELL who have a grudge against Prophet. Alcatraz makes his way arround the area where the Nanosuit activates another ability Stealth Mode. Proceeding to a heavily guarded CELL checkpoint, Alcatraz makes his way thorugh and enters the now devastated Manhattan.
"Sudden Impact" is the third mission of Crysis 2.
It features the attempts of Alcatraz to recover alien tissue from the crash site of a Ceph gunship shot down by CELL helicopters.
Alcatraz starts in a basement of a bulding where Gould warns him about Commander Lockhart, the head of the CELL forces and the one in charge of capturing him. Reaching the exit of the buiding he discovers Lockhart arguing with a woman named Tara Strickland. Lockhart intends to use lethal force against Alcatraz, who is believed to be Prophet, while Strickland intends to take him alive in accordance with Hargreave's orders. After Lockhart cancels the argument the two fly off on a helicopter. Alcatraz then fights his way to the FDR which is partially collapsed by a large oil tanker, allowing him to climb on. Travelling along the bridge, Alcatraz fights off numerous CELL members and is told by Gould to aquire a vehicle for faster movement. Alcatraz reachers a checkpoint guarded by a CELL ICV and has to aquire an ICV to progress. Gaining control of a vehicle Alcatraz fights his way along the road that has numerous roadblocks. Reaching the lab Alcatraz fights 2 CELL ICV's and finally succesfully reaches the Harbor Lights Pier.
Alcatraz arrives at Harbor Lights Pier where Gould's lab is located, but finds that CELL has discovered it first and that Gould himself has moved to an apartment nearby. Gould instructs Alcatraz to break into the lab and destroy his computer, which contains the location of the apartment. He navigates the CELL infested pier and enters the warehouse in which Gould stationed his lab. Reaching the lab, Alcatraz kills 3 CELL soldiers that are trying to find info about Gould and destroys the computer which contains the data. Lockhart then suddenly orders masses of CELL operatives as well as a Gunship to swarm the building in an attempt to kill Alcatraz. Alcatraz fights off the soldiers and destroys the Gunship, which crashes throught the wall allowing Alcatraz to proceed. Gould tells him to come at the apartment, which Alcatraz succesfully does. Inside the apartment Gould explains about some basic functions of the Nanosuit and instructs Alcatraz to sit down in a Nanosuit cradle. Before starting the scan he tells Alcatraz (who he thinks is Prophet) about Tara Strickland - daughter of Major Strickland. After starting the scan, Gould finds out that Alcatraz is not Prophet and interrogates him about who he is. The Nanosuit unzips the memory that is seen at the start of Second Chance. Gould, losing hope, explains the Ceph and gives a more in depth information about the Nanosuit and Jacob Hargreave. They discover a Viral Sub-Routine in the Nanosuit's deep layers. Gould now understands that Prophet wanted Alcatraz for a purpose. With his hope renewed, Gould informs Alcatraz that they must reach the Hargreave-Rasch Biomedical Corporation to get a Nanosuit Deep Scan Cradle. The apartment is suddenly attacked by a CELL Sniper and several soldiers who use tear gas to lure Gould and Alcatraz out. Gould runs out via the fire escape, while Alcatraz fights the soldiers inside the budling. After fighting off several soldiers, Alcatraz reaches a window where he is attacked by a CELL soldier; Alcatraz pulls himself and the soldier out of the window, sending both of them plummeting to the ground. After a brief fight in the air Alcatraz gains the upper hand and uses Armor Mode and the soldier as a cushion, landing on a metal container and barely surviving.
Gould leads Alcatraz to the CELL Nanotech Facility but finds it on lockdown. He suggests creating an explosive diversion to draw the CELL troops away from the facility. Alcatraz then fights his way through CELL operatives with every intention of detonating CELL equipment to cause the CELL to focus on his location. When Alcatraz is on his way to the CELL Nanotech Facility, for the second time he meets the Ceph, he adjusts his Nanosuit 2 for the fight with Ceph and CELL. Alcatraz makes his way through the CELL LGVs and CELL solodiers to the building that leads to the catheadra, where Alcatraz creates a special diversion for Nathan Gould to sneak in to the CELL Nanotech Facility. Alcatraz disables security of the seawers beneath the Cathedra where he sights a most powerful version of Ceph, that can cloak. Alcatraz makes his way to the building we see in the openin for the chapter Second Chance while CELL are checking the damage after explosions that Alcatraz have set off.
Dead Man Walking
Alcatraz is directed by Nathan Gould into the Hargreave-Rasch building, past a number of CELL Assault Operatives. Once inside, Gould forces a technician to run a suit scan on Alcatraz in the building's Nanosuit cradle. The cradle reveals that Alcatraz, due to the injuries he sustained during the events of "In at the Deep End," is actually dead, only held alive by the Nanosuit 2. The Nanosuit cradle then broadcasts a transmission, allowing Commander Lockhart and Tara Strickland to find him. Lockhart captures Alcatraz, but they are unable to escape the building before a spore spear erupts from the ground, killing the CELL units around him. Alcatraz fights off a number of Ceph units before falling unconcious.
Seat of Power
Alcatraz awakens to find the Ceph have begun a full-scale invasion of New York City. He is introduced over his comms to Jacob Hargreave, founder of Hargreave-Rasch Biomedical, a company that helped create the nanosuit with Crynet Systems, which Hargreave also owns. Hargreave instructs Alcatraz to fight his way past the City Hall, which is now under Ceph control. He also explains that after killing humans en masse with their toxic spores, the Ceph break them down into biomass in order to quickly and easily dispose of the poisoned bodies. Alcatraz then begins making his way towards the center of the "infestation."
Alcatraz travels through the tunnels near City Hall, fighting hordes of Ceph warriors. He eventually finds several of the long, tentacle-like spires, which disperse spores over the city and poison the population. Hargreave explains that the alien DNA merging with the Nanosuit 2 allows it to destroy the alien spires, acting as a vaccine. Hargreave reveals that time is of the essence because, contrary to his objections, the Pentagon is planning on flooding the city in an attempt to drown the Ceph. Alcatraz manages to reach the evacuation helicopter but is too late to escape the flood.
Semper Fi or Die
Alcatraz awakens in the flooded streets of New York City, having been found by Chino, one of his marine friends, and his band of soldiers. The group is instructed by Hargreave to make their way to the Hargreave-Rasch building so Alcatraz can use their computers with his suit. As the soldiers fight the Ceph forces, they realize the city is being ripped apart from underground by a massive structure.
Alcatraz, Chino, and the marines continue fighting off the Ceph aliens as they make their way to the Hargreave-Rasch building. They eventually find it, and Alcatraz is forced to infiltrate through the parking garages using the CELL ICV to open the garage doors. Hargreave instructs Lockhart to tell the CELL soldiers to allow Alcatraz through, but Lockhart goes rogue and refuses, saying Alcatraz has killed too many of his men to allow that. Alcatraz interfaces with the computers at the building, but it is eventually destroyed by a Ceph Pinger that breaks the glass wall and he is knocked back out into the streets.
Train to Catch
Colonel Barclay explains that he is in charge of evacuating citizens from the city via the subway tunnels. Alcatraz attempts to make his way there, and is repeatedly caught in the middle of firefights between the United States military and the Ceph aliens as they rescue civilians and evacuate them to Grand Central Station.
Alcatraz arrives at Grand Central Station and begins to assist in the perimeter defense. Alcatraz's primary objective is to re-arm the explosives in the lower garage of the ONYX building opposite Grand Central Station in order to block the Ceph line of fire. After arming the explosives, Alcatraz must reclaim the detonator from Torres and activate the explosives. After detonating the explosives, Alcatraz must fall back to Grand Central Station and defend it momentarily before being called inside by Barclay.
Alcatraz arrives at the subway station where Barclay is evacuating civilians. Gould appears and demands to be allowed to stay in the city to help, but Barclay orders him evacuated as he is a civilian. He explains that Tara Strickland must have let him go for a reason. The station comes under attack by Ceph forces, and Alcatraz assists the military in fending them off while the subway cars are sent away. Alcatraz and the marines attempt to escape Grand Central Station as it is attacked by the Ceph. The MetLife Building sustains heavy damage and begins to fall on the terminal, causing Marines to arrive in a Jeep and evacuate Alacatraz. As they emerge from the terminal, other Jeeps and a tank, covered with Marines, attempt to escape the collapsing building. Alcatraz's jeep stops as a civilian screams for them to wait, as his wife another man attempt to make their way out of the rubble to reach the Jeep. Unfortunately, the Marines have no time to spare and speed away without the civilians, as the building collapses onto the terminal and sends rubble covering the streets.
Barclay calls for VTOL transports to airlift Alcatraz and the remaining civilians and marines out of Times Square, but the Ceph launch several waves of attacks that are successfully repelled. Eventually, a giant electrical surge causes Times Square and the surrounding areas to lose power as more Ceph attack. As the VTOLs arrive, another spear erupts from the ground. Before it can release the spore, Hargreave tells Alcatraz to enter the spear, where his suit once again integrates with the structure, temporarily disabling the Nanosuit. When the spear releases the spore, rather than target humans, the spore kills the Ceph. After Alcatraz's suit reboots, he jumps into a waiting VTOL that flys away from a surviving Pinger.
Eye of The Storm
As the VTOLs fly away from New York City, Hargreave suggests they fly to Roosevelt Island, where his base of operations, the Prism, is located, and where he is being held under house arrest by Lockhart. Alcatraz is dropped there, and Hargreave informs him that Lockhart has set up an electromagnetic pulse trap. Alcatraz disables the power, bypasses the trap, and infiltrates the facility, where he kills Lockhart by throwing him out a window. Continuing toward Hargreave, Alcatraz is then hit by a second EMP trap and captured by Tara Strickland at Hargreave's orders.
Alcatraz is strapped to a table, where Hargreave, over a television link, informs his staff to cut him out of the nanosuit. Alcatraz has another Prophet flashback, where he sees that Prophet was sent to Lingshan by Hargreave himself, and that Hargreave knew of the Ceph on the island and that they would presumably kill his squad, which led an enraged Prophet to stop working for him. The suit suddenly takes over and prevents the staff from cutting Alcatraz out. Hargreave tells the staff to kill him, but Tara Strickland shoots them instead, and reveals herself to be a CIA mole. She explains that no one has ever seen Hargreave in person and that he has valuable information on fighting the Ceph, prompting Alcatraz to fight his way to Hargreave's ornate office. There, Hargreave, still communicating over a television, reveals that he has been alive for over a hundred years, having prolonged his life with technology from the Tunguska event, whereupon he decided to devote his life to destroying the Ceph. Alcatraz finds his true withered body in a stasis pod, with the Hargreave on the monitor as a computer simulation that speaks for him. Hargreave tells Alcatraz to inject himself with the Tunguska Iteration, which will enhance the nanosuit's anti-alien capabilities and reveals the last of the Prophet flashbacks. The Ceph arrive at the Prism and Hargreave activates a self-destruct sequence as well as ordering surviving CELL soldiers to assist Alcatraz in his escape. While crossing the Queensboro bridge, the Prism self-destructs, destroying the bridge and sending Alcatraz plummeting into the river.
Out of the Ashes
Alcatraz recovers to find himself washed up on the Manhattan side of the river and is soon found by Gould, Tara Strickland, and Chino. They decide to head to Central Park in a commandeered C.E.L.L. convoy, where Gould has figured the central spore regulator must be located based on Prophet's flashbacks. Barclay informs them that the department of defense plans to launch a nuclear missle on the island without recognizing the collateral damage to the city in 20 minutes unless they stop the invasion now. After Alcatraz is stranded when his vehicle is destroyed, he continues towards Central Park by rooftop. Upon nearing the park, a massive portion of the park is lifted into the air by the tentacles of a massive alien structure that is rising from the ground.
A Walk in The Park
Alcatraz is dropped onto the now-floating Central Park, connected to a Ceph ship. He fights his way through the hordes of aliens and disables several more spires, structurally damaging the vehicle. He finally enters the spire and is engulfed by alien energy. At this point, he encounters a vision of Prophet, who has been interacting with him the whole time in the form of the suit voice, and explains how he once found shocking and disturbing news about the impending alien invasion inside the Ceph ship on the island. He says that while the Ceph might have been beaten in New York City, they have underground ships all over the planet and are just beginning to awaken. At this point, the ship releases a pulse of energy from the nanosuit that kills all of the aliens in the city, and Gould and Tara watch as the city rejoices. Alcatraz wakes up in the rubble and is contacted by Karl Rasch, Hargreave's business partner, who asks the nanosuited soldier his name. He replies, in Prophet's voice, "They call me...Prophet."
